What are the differences between OptOmega and BiOmega ?
OptOmega (derived from plants) provides the essential fatty acids alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) and linoleic acid (omega-6). From these fats, all other fats (such as EPA, DHA, and GLA) are derived. The percentage of each that a person obtains is dependent on the chemistry of the individual.
For those desiring a more concentrated amount of EPA or DHA, Usana suggest taking BiOmega (derived from fish). Some choose BiOmega because it contains a higher concentration of EPA and DHA and has more therapeutic uses. Others choose OptOmega because it contains not only omega-3 fatty acids, but also contains omega-6 as well. In other words, BiOmega and OptOmega don't necessarily provide the same kinds of fat.
In addition, the manufacturing of these two products is different due to the nature of the sources (plants vs. fish). The delivery systems are also different. While BiOmega is encapsulated, OptOmega is in the form of oil that can be added to salad dressings, shakes, etc. |
